Applicable materials
Almost all metals, alloys, and ceramic materials.
Natural materials will affect the vacuum environment and are not suitable for vacuum electroplating.
In addition to natural materials, suitable materials for Vacuum electroplating include metal materials, hard and soft plastics (ABS materials, ABS PC materials, PC materials, etc.), composite materials, ceramics, and glass.
Aluminum is the most common surface treatment for vacuum electroplating, followed by silver and copper.
Design Considerations
The equipment used in vacuum electroplating is usually relatively high, and the process flow is complicated, which requires high environment. Therefore, the unit price of vacuum electroplating is more expensive than that of water electroplating.
Vacuum electroplating is affected by the volume of the vacuum environment in the equipment, so it has certain requirements on the size of the target material, which is not suitable for large target material. The common target material in the vacuum chamber should be less than 1.2 * 1.1m (3.94 * 3.3ft), and the 3D workpiece should be less than 1.2 * 0.5m (3.94 * 1.6ft).
The workpiece surface of vacuum electroplating must be kept dry and smooth, otherwise the treatment effect will be affected.
Vacuum electroplating can be rich in color, can be plated 7 colors, than water plating, can achieve anode aluminum, bright chrome, gold, silver, copper and gun copper (a copper-tin alloy) rich and colorful effect. Water plating generally only copper plating (red), nickel plating (yellowish silver), gold plating, silver plating, gun plating (black, dark black, light black, etc.), chrome plating (silver white) and other monotonous colors.
Vacuum electroplating is the most common metal surface treatment technology.
Cost of process
Vacuum electroplating process is complicated and depends on manual operation. The workpiece (the target) needs to be sprayed, loaded, unloaded, and re-sprayed, and also depends on the complexity and quantity of the workpiece, so the labor cost is high.
Environmental Impact
Vacuum electroplating is widely used in various industries because of low radiation and low environmental pollution in vacuum environment.
