    Metal stamping processing is a production technology of product parts with a certain shape, size and performance by virtue of the power of conventional or special metal stamping equipment to make the sheet directly subject to deformation force and deformation in the mold. Sheet metal, die and equipment are the three elements of metal stamping. According to the metal stamping processing temperature, it can be divided into hot metal stamping and cold metal stamping. The former is suitable for sheet metal processing with high deformation resistance and poor plasticity; The latter is carried out at room temperature, which is a commonly used metal stamping method for sheet metal. It is one of the main methods of metal plastic processing (or pressure processing), and also belongs to material forming engineering technology.

    The dies used for metal stamping are called metal stamping dies, or simply stamping dies. Stamping die is a special tool for batch processing materials (metal or non-metal) into required stamping parts. Stamping die is very important in metal stamping. Without qualified stamping die, it is difficult to conduct batch metal stamping production; Without advanced stamping die, advanced metal stamping process cannot be realized. Metal stamping process and die, metal stamping equipment and metal stamping materials constitute the three elements of metal stamping processing. Only when they are combined can metal stamping parts be obtained.

    Metal stamping is an efficient production method. Using compound dies, especially multi station progressive dies, multiple metal stamping processes can be completed on a single press (single station or multi station) to achieve fully automatic production from strip uncoiling, leveling, blanking to forming and finishing. High production efficiency, good working conditions, low production cost, generally hundreds of pieces can be produced per minute. Compared with other methods of mechanical processing and plastic processing, metal stamping has many unique advantages in both technical and economic aspects. The main performances are as follows.

    (1) The production efficiency of metal stamping is high, the operation is convenient, and it is easy to realize mechanization and automation. This is because metal stamping depends on stamping dies and metal stamping equipment to complete the processing. The number of strokes of ordinary presses can reach dozens of times per minute, and the high-speed pressure can reach hundreds or even thousands of times per minute. In addition, each metal stamping stroke may result in a stamping part.

    (2) During metal stamping, because the die ensures the size and shape accuracy of metal stamping parts, and generally does not damage the surface quality of metal stamping parts, and the life of the die is generally long, the quality of metal stamping is stable, the interchangeability is good, and it has the characteristics of "identical".

    (3) Metal stamping can process parts with large size range and complex shape, such as the second hand of a clock, the longitudinal beam of an automobile, and the covering parts. In addition to the cold deformation hardening effect of materials during metal stamping, metal stamping has high strength and stiffness.

    (4) Generally, metal stamping does not generate chips, consumes less materials, and does not require other heating equipment, so it is a material saving and energy-saving processing method, and the cost of metal stamping parts is low.
